God Delivers
Skim the history of how Abraham’s family came to be in Egypt (Gen. 37–50).
Read Exodus 1 – 14 and review God’s covenant with Abraham (Gen. 15).
1. a) Compare God’s word to Abraham (Gen. 15:5, 13–16) with the events through Exodus 1:7. Use Phrases from Exodus 1:1-7 to show that God was keeping his word to Abraham.
b) What remains to be fulfilled of God’s promise?

2. What was the new Pharaoh’s attitude toward God’s people?
3. Describe the Israelite’s oppression that happened according to the word of the Lord.
4. What do you think God was accomplishing through all this?
5. How does God’s purpose for the Israelite’s suffering give you hope in your present trial?
6. In your own words, summarize Moses’ life up to his exile.
7. Moses had seemed to be in a perfect position to help his people, yet his efforts resulted in failure. How does God’s word to Zerubbabel in Zechariah 4:6 relate to Moses’ failed attempt at deliverance?
8. How does Zechariah 4:6 challenge your attitudes or help your faith in your present situation?
9. What four things are said by God in Exodus 2:24-25?
10. What is it that God remembers? (See Genesis 15:14)
The following chapters in this study of Exodus will unfold for us the fulfillment of this promise.
11. Read Exodus 3:1 – 4:17. a) Describe the miraculous way God revealed himself to Moses, listing references.
b) Listing references, use phrases from this passage that show 1) God’s commission to Moses, 2) the assurance of His presence, 3) the revealing of His name.

12. What events in chapter 5 cause Moses to be discouraged after his initial encounter with Pharaoh?
13. When Moses takes his complaint to the Lord, how does God assure Moses that his people will indeed be free?
14. What encouragement do you gain from the fact that God remembers His covenant?
15. Read chapters 7 – 12. In the space below, list each plague and its effect.

19. See 1 Corinthians 5:7-8. a) What do we learn about the significance of the Old Testament Passover lamb?
b) What do we learn about God’s requirements about how we are to celebrate the feast?
20. a) Read Exodus 13:17 – 14:31 and summarize the exodus events in your own words.
21. Compare 1 Corinthians 10:2 with Galatians 3:27 and explain what the crossing of the Red Sea represents.
22. Read Exodus 14:31 and tell what God’s people saw and the effect it had on them.
23. What have you seen as God has kept his word to you? What effect does this have on you?
24. What do you learn about the character of God from the chapters in this lesson and what effect does this knowledge have on you? How will it impact your relationship with God?
