Living by Faith: A Study in Romans
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:30
We remember from our previous study that we have received the Spirit of adoption as sons. The Spirit bears witness with our spirits that we are God's children who will be glorified with Christ if we share in his sufferings. In this study we will look at the believer's hope of glory.
Read Romans 8:18-25
1) What does Paul say about suffering and the saints' future glory?
2) What is the creation waiting for and what does it mean that it was subjected to futility? See Genesis 3:17-19.
3) How is it that the creation is subjected to futility yet has hope? See Romans 8:21 and Revelation 21:1-4.
4) What does Romans 8:23 say about our adoption as sons?
We've been given the Spirit of adoption as a guarantee of what is to come. The great hope of the saints is our final salvation;one day our adoption will be fully realized and we will be glorified as sons of God.
5) What do you learn from the following verses about the saints' glory?
6) Elsewhere Paul speaks of groaning while we wait for the glory to come. What does 2 Corinthians 5:1-10 teach you about the believer's hope?
Read Romans 8:26-30
7) We've been given the firstfruits of the Spirit (Rom. 8:23) who is the guarantee of the glory to come (2 Cor. 5:5) Describe the Spirit's ministry to us in bringing us through suffering to glory.
8) What encouragement do you gain from the fact of the Spirit's intercession?
9) What assurance does Romans 8:29-30 give you that God will indeed accomplish his purposes for you?
10) In what situation do you need the Spirit's help and God's will to be done? How can you actively entrust this situation to God?
God's will for us can never be derailed! He works all the circumstances of our lives toward the goal of glory.
Read Romans 8:31-39
11) Nothing in all of creation can sever us from our Father's love. What confidence does this passage give you for:
12) We are more than conquerors through tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger and sword (Rom. 8:35-37). Why is this so? See verse 38-39.
Because God loves us and has called us sons we are given the hope of glory and the promise that he will work all things for good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose.
13) How has the truth of God's word helped your faith as you've digested Romans this week?
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:4
