Journey Through God's Word
God Makes a Way

Read Genesis 1-2
1. Summarize the events of creation giving careful attention not only to what God does, but also to what God says.

 2. What is God's evaluation of his creation? 1:31

3. Use words and phrases found in this passage to describe the following (include references):
  • Man's God-given dignity

  • His place in creation

  • His purpose

  • God's provision for man
 4. In your own words tell what life was like for the man and woman in the garden.

5. What was the one command God gave to man? What did God say would be the consequence of disobedience?
Read Genesis 3 (For more information on the true identity of the serpent, see Revelation 20:2.)

6. What was Satan's tactic in his temptation of Eve?

7. How does he use the same tactics with us today?

8. a) Read Genesis 3:6. In what three areas did the temptation affect Eve?

b) How do you think Eve's temptation corresponds to the elements of the world described in 1 John 2:16?

c) How do  you see these elements of the active in the world today? In yourself?

9. Use phrases from Genesis 3:7-13 to explain the immediate effects of Adam's fall. Give references.  What punishment did God give to each guilty party? See Genesis 3:14-24.
  • The serpent?

  • Adam?

  • Eve?
10. Use phrases from the following verses to explain the long-term effects of Adam's fall.
  •  Romans 3:23

  • Romans 6:23

  • Ephesians 2:3
11. What does Genesis 3:15 tell us of a "seed", or "offspring" of Eve?

12. To see that Jesus is the foretold seed, read Luke 3:23-38. Take special note of the names Abraham and David for these men are significant figures in God's story of salvation.
Read Hebrews 2:14-18

13. Use phrases from this passage that tell how Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Genesis 3:15.

14. Keeping in mind what we've learned so far about temptation and our natural condition, how do we benefit from Christ's work as described in Hebrews 2:14-18?

15. Describe the action of God in Genesis 3:21. How does this compare or contrast with the clothing described in Genesis 3:7?

16. Using 1 Peter 1:18-19 and Romans 13:14, tell how Genesis 3:21 foreshadows Christ.

17. What have you learned about God's attributes in this week's study and how will this knowledge impact your worship of God?
