Lesson 9
Read Mark Learn Bible Studies
Inhabiting the Promised Land
And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel. Joshua 10:42
Joshua 9 & 10
So far in our study of the conquest of Canaan we've seen Israel experience sin and defeat as well as faith and victory. God is at work to bring about his promises to Israel. In this lesson we will learn about God's grace and his ability to use the circumstances of our lives to bring about his good plans.
Read Joshua 9
1. What sin did Joshua lead Israel into and what reason does Scripture give for this failure? Give references.
2. What obligation does Israel now have toward Gibeon?
3. Have you ever made a regrettable action after not consulting the Lord? What were the consequences? Did any good come through it in the end? Just as God is able to make good come from our mistakes, so now he will do so for Israel. Israel has entered into a covenant with a people God meant to destroy, and now they are obligated to honor that covenant and protect the people of Gibeon.
Read Joshua 104. How does Israel's unfortunate covenant with the Gibeonites give them an opportunity to fulfill God's plan for them?
Read Romans 8:27-305. What do you learn about:
6. What difference does the truth of Romans 8:27-30 make in your life's circumstances today? Perhaps, like Joshua, you sinned and didn't even realize it until after the fact. Or maybe your life is negatively affected by the sins of another. Whatever your circumstances, you can be comforted that God knows about them and you can also be assured that the Father is working through them to make you like his Son according to the Spirit's intercession. Now that's grace!
