To the Praise of His Glory
A Study in Ephesians
So that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:27
Ephesians 5:22-33
Read Ephesians 5:22-33
1) In this passage what picture does Paul give us as a model for marriage?
2) How are husbands and wives to treat each other?
3) Paul's teaching on marriage is rooted in the creation order. What does 1 Corinthians 11:8-12 teach about the interdependence of man and woman?4) Christ gave himself up for the church to make her a holy and blameless bride. What more do we learn from the following passages about Christ's atoning work?
5) Let's look again at what Ephesians says Christ has done for us. Read Ephesians 5:26-27 What do these verses say about:
What wonderful news! We will be presented to Christ and we will be beautiful!
6) The cross has implications for all of life. Our salvation is worked out in our personal piety and in our relationships with others. We cannot have nearness to God if we do not love our brother (1 John 2:10-11) What do you learn from Paul's example of marriage about the church's relationship with Christ?
7) How will our supernatural beauty shine through as we pattern not only marriage but all our relationships on Christ?
8a) Is there an area in your marriage or other relationship that is inconsistent with Christ and what the church is called to be?
b)What steps would the Lord have you take to begin to direct that relationship toward wholeness in Christ?
Jesus is our pattern for any relationship. And more than that, he is our life and our hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
