To the Praise of His Glory
A Study in Ephesians
For by grace you have been saved through faith. and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
Ephesians 2:1-10
In our last lesson we learned about the immeasurable greatness of God's power toward us who believe. His gracious power towards us seems all the more amazing when we understand what we were before he reached down to save us.
Read Ephesians 2:1-10
1) Verse one states that we were dead in trespasses and sins and verses 2 and 3 describe the life of death. Using verses 1-3, describe
2) Read Titus 3:3. What further description do we gain about our condition before Christ?
3) Ephesians 2:2-3 and Titus 3:3 give us a sobering view of mankind and of ourselves apart from Christ. How does this view differ from the views of mankind common in our culture?
4) In verse 4 we read the phrase, "But God." Though mankind walks in darkness God is different. What do we learn about God and his love toward us in Ephesians 2:4-5?
5) Read Ephesians 2:6-7 and tell what God does for us when he makes us alive in Christ.
6) Read Titus 3:4-7. Again, Titus further describes the truth set forth in Ephesians and gives a fuller view of our salvation. What has God done for believers according to this passage?
7) Read Ephesians 2:8-9. Why is it such good news that we are saved by God's grace and mercy rather than by our own good works?
Because Salvation is not our work we cannot boast. Rather we must give thanks for what God has done for us.
8) Being raised to life is only the beginning. What else do we learn about God's work in our lives from Ephesians 2:10?
9) Every Christian is created for good works that are prepared in advance by God. What works has God prepared for you, and what blessing do you expect to receive as you walk in those works?
As we walk in what God has prepared for us, whether it is a single life-service or a simply a readiness to serve him as we have opportunity, we can be certain that God continues to work in us to make us more like Jesus. We can thank him for the privilege of being in his service.
